Happy Canyon Vineyard is nestled into the undulating hills of the beautiful Piocho Ranch at the eastern most edge of the Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara County. The ranch is home to the Barrack family who has taken great pride over the years in being stewards of the land and created wines that are unique to the beauty and richness of the “terroir”. Apart from its beautiful vineyards, Piocho Ranch is a place where the game of polo is enjoyed by the Barrack family and its guests. The property has two regulation sized polo fields and is home to many powerful polo ponies.
The success of Bordeaux varietals grown in Happy Canyon and the quality of the resulting wines has been an epiphany for those who have tasted these wines. The mature Happy Canyon Vineyard vines are producing wines that are comparable to the best in the world. Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara is one of the newest and smallest AVA’s (American Viticulture Area) in California. The AVA defines the eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley as a distinct wine region, both climatically and geographically, for the production of Bordeaux varietals. Our estate wines: Barrack Ten Goal, Barrack Brand, Barrack Blanc, Piocho, and Chukker, and HCV Sauvignon Blanc have been hugely successful.
