Rancho Sisquoc

Rancho Sisquoc

At Rancho Sisquoc Winery we believe in crafting quality wines in small quantities. As one of the first wineries in the now famous Santa Barbara County wine region, we have been around long enough to know that great wine is born from a great vineyard. Our vineyard is comprised of 293 acres planted on south facing slopes along the Sisquoc River.  Unique microclimates allow us to grow several varieties, and to produce grapes that offer distinct flavor and quality. Warmer than vineyards in the lower Santa Maria Valley, Rancho Sisquoc is cooler than the Santa Ynez Valley only 20 miles to the south, thanks to what’s known as the transverse range, which are coastal mountains running west to east that bring cool winds and fog inland from the Pacific Ocean.

Rancho Sisquoc is an original 1852 Mexican land grant. The James Flood Family of San Francisco purchased the 37,000 acre cattle ranch in 1952 and began to plant the vineyards in 1968. The Chumash Indians called this area “Sisquoc” which meant “gathering place”. Today Rancho Sisquoc is again a gathering place for wine lovers. Today, as you drive the road that snakes along the edge of the valley floor to the tasting room, you leave the rush of the present day behind. The farmhouses and barns date from the early 1900’s and artifacts of an earlier age give the ranch the feeling of a time when the pace was slower and unrushed.  We welcome visitors to picnic on our lush grounds while enjoying one of our fine wines.
