Luna Hart Wines is a small, woman-owned winery in Santa Barbara County dedicated to producing expressive, small-lot wines through a thoughtful, minimal intervention lens. Founded by winemaker Gretchen Voelcker, Luna Hart is rooted in a deep commitment to sustainability, transparency, and crafting wines that are bright, textured, and alive with energy.
Gretchen sources fruit exclusively from organic, biodynamic, or sustainably farmed vineyards across Santa Barbara County, working closely with growers who share her values and a commitment to environmental stewardship. Each vineyard is carefully chosen for its distinct soils, microclimate, and character—providing the raw materials for wines that speak clearly of place and vintage.
Luna Hart specializes in Sauvignon Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc, producing wines that are lower in alcohol, higher in natural acidity, and driven by purity, balance, and site expression. All fermentations are native, and fermentation is approached with both intention and experimentation—exploring vessel type, temperature, and timing to let each wine evolve naturally and with integrity.
In the cellar, Gretchen works with a light hand: there is no fining or filtering, and sulfur is used minimally and only when necessary. The resulting wines are vibrant, layered, and full of life—each one an honest reflection of the vineyard it came from and the vintage that shaped it.
Luna Hart operates out of its shared winery facility in Ballard Canyon, where Gretchen produces and ages the wines onsite. Guests are welcomed by appointment for private tastings in an intimate setting that reflects the spirit of the brand—personal, intentional, and deeply connected to the land.
Now over a decade in, Luna Hart remains a celebration of small-scale, soulful winemaking—with every bottle telling a story of place, care, and quiet strength.
